Italian dolomites challenge
chateauneuf villages, ventoux countryside and the luberon valley
The Dolomites have seen many epic battles: from the WWI Austrian front to the athletic standoffs of athletes like Marco Pantani and Fausto Coppi. This bicycle adventure brings you the very best of these legendary mountains. The exploits of Andy Hampsten on Passo Gavia, Charly Gaul on Passo Stelvio, and the spectacular views of the Sella Ronda come to life at the crest of each pass. And every dinner will be a feast that only Adams & Peabody knows how to prepare: with plenty of local canederli and Braulio and getting you ready for the next day. Join us in this once in a lifetime experience as we cross the Italian Dolomites over some of cycling history’s most legendary mountain passes.

DAY 1 – 2 18 mi / 75 mi
We will cover our first afternoon climb, tackling the initial kilometers, switchbacks, and elevation of our adventure. Bormio is the setting for a fantastic dinner. We ascend Passo del Mortirolo from the classic Giro d’Italia side. A challenging start but worth the gorgeous views along the way. The van and our support team will be there every kilometer to assist you in your exploits and cheer you on to the top! Continue toward the start of Passo di Gavia and an epic double ascent for the day.
DAY 3 – 4 80 mi / 51 mi
The summit of Stelvio is no sleepy village: shops and sandwich makers are all over the pass in the summer, so be sure to stop and enjoy the camaraderie. We begin the technical descent through Prato dello Stelvio and all the way down the Adige river to Bolzano on back roads and bike paths. Bolzano is the cultural hub of the Süd Tirol mountain range and a hotspot for spritz, outdoor festivals and people watching.
DAY 5 – 6 36 mi / 61 mi
We continue our journey through the National Park of the Scilliar, known to be a center of pagan activity during the medieval period. Although you may doubt the existence of witches and warlocks, you won’t be able to deny the natural beauty of this part of the world. We will descend the other side of Passo Niger into the Val di Fassa toward one legendary cycling circuit: the Sella Ronda. This group of mountain passes is all within a few hundred vertical meters of one another so as soon as we are up, we stay up.
DAY 7 15 mi
This morning we’ll have a quick spin to the village of Canazei at the top of the newly paved bike path nestled within the southern Dolomites. Shortly before lunch, we will transfer the group to one of the major train stations near our hotel to make international connections.
